Exhibitions & Brief Biography

Born in Southend and educated in Middlesex and Cambridge has followed a wandering and satisfying career path but has always spent time with her photography and writing.

She started photography with her father at the age of 11 and has never forgotten that first precious magic on an image appearing through the drifting chemicals of the darkroom.

Pursuing a dual career of photography and psychotherapy she finds they balance each other well.

Heather has exhibited widely and is currently involved in creating two exhibitions – ‘Pembrokeshire Promise’ and ‘Hireath’ for 2025.

She has travelled extensively with her husband Raul Speak : images from this form a major body of work and is the subject of one of her books ‘Travels with my Camera’ which followed her first book ‘Pembrokeshire Promise’. She makes handmade books and is currently completing her novel ‘Chapel Cat’.

Raul and Heather moved to Pembrokeshire in 1995: it is home for them both physically and in their hearts. Heather often wrote for Pembrokeshire Life, which sadly no longer exists, because she wanted people outside of the county to come to love it as she does. She likes to write regularly for the FAS magazine believing it important to build an art community here.

There is an ongoing exhibition of work at the gallery in Solva and a selection of mounted prints at Oriel y Parc, St David’s.
