I think of colour as threads in the coastal landscape, dipping in and out, interlocked and inter-woven.
Sometimes the bold colours are replaced with ribbon gauzes and organdy passages that can end in frayed textual edges.
All employed to conjure that moment in time and place.
Layers of paint are added to establish atmospheric coastal conditions – such as a moody sea fret, the waning of the day or the drama of sheer cliffs that have been shaped by wind and tide.
Some pieces are bejewelled with colour, as bright as a summer’s day while others are more softly painted to capture the fading light. Playful colour combinations give my work a distinctive voice.
My story is of a painter who loves being at the edge of the land, watching the skies and the light change on the sea. Forever fascinated by the sense of space and freedom that being on the coast provides. There is drama, joy and peace in these moments and in my paintings.

What collectors have said about Kate’s work :
Jenny (USA)
“ I have hung your painting opposite my bed so it’s the first thing I see when I get up. The positive vibes help me start the day in just the right way ! I love it !!”
Antoine (Montreal)
“The colour palette is stunning and the painting somehow communicates a feeling of joy. A feeling I want to fill my life with. I didn’t get such a strong emotional response from other paintings, so I reached out, hoping you would be kind enough to export to the work to Canada.
Living with your painting gives me a sense of home. The art gives some hints about who I am and what kind of home I want to build. A colourful life, filled with kindness and joy. A positive take on the future”
Lucy (London)
“.. how beautiful your work is. Walking into that room, filled with colour and coastal inspired pieces was everything my soul needed”
Favourite medium
I love the textural quality to oil paint on stretched canvas & I have in the last couple of years incorporated Liquitex Heavy Body acrylics into my paint box.
